Our House-Part 3

I finally completed the final touches on Megan's room (the pictures/scrapbook pages above her bed and her name aboe the crib). Six weeks old, that's not bad...

Several weeks before the ultrasound to determine that we were getting a Megan and not a Zach or a Noah, Chad and I discussed how we should decorate the baby's room. He was quite content to leave it the bright sunshine yellow (like sunshine, it hurt your eyes) using the argument that yellow is neutral. At that time, I told him for a little girl, I would paint the room pink and for a little boy I would paint it blue and green. He said okay. About 20 minutes after the ultrasound, suddenly pink became an issue. What shade of pink? How about white paint, with a pink tint? Why not yellow? Needless to say, these options were vetoed and I brought to the table a compromise of pink and green. And, when all is said and done, I think we are both really happy with how it turned out. Plus, I'm pretty sure Chad was just giving me a hard time didn't really care about the color.

And I'll try to write more about the wedding later and put some other pictures up, but here is a sneak preview:

Having a baby changes everything...

Have you seen that commercial from Johnson & Johnson where the tagline is, "Having a baby changes everything?" I could have my own commercial and I would show them the picture below. We are leaving Wednesday morning to fly to Denver for my brother's wedding. We will be gone for 5 days. Chad and I travel pretty light, usually we each take a small suitcase or share the large one. Megan gets the big suitcase this time. The picture below is everything I'm taking for Megan (and doesn't even count the diapers that I'm going to buy in Colorado, or her car seat, or her stroller). She weighs just over 9 pounds, all she does is eat, sleep and poop. How can she require this much stuff? She probably doesn't, but what if it's cold? What if it's hot? What if she spits up on her dress?

We are looking forward to the wedding (now that all the planning details are out of the way.) The big event is happening on Thursday in Estes Park. Tim and Mindy will get to meet Megan for the first time and we'll get some time in with my parents, Suzy, Nelson and Ariana. We are also hoping that we will get to spend the day on Friday in Rocky Mountain National Park. Maybe we'll have some hiking pictures to post when we get back.

Bathing Beauty and Bad Hair Days

So, she can't focus her eyes and she isn't even aware that she has hair, but yesterday she had her first "bad hair day." Chad had laid her down in her crib for a nap. She quickly woke up when not in someone's cozy arms (she has been a little cat-nappy lately) and she was crying when I got to her room. As I looked in her crib, I noticed that she had one of her little clenched fists grabbing the hair on the back of her head and she was crying big crocodile tears. I felt several things at once pity and yet an urge to laugh at the ridiculousness of it. The poor little girl didn't even know she was causing her own pain.

Smiling for the Grandparents

Sorry for the lapse in posts, we've been having some download issues and, I'm trying to raise a kid here...web time is hard to squeeze in between feeding time, diaper time, playing time and nap time.

During week three Megan began to smile. When the grandparents and great grandma came to visit, she smiled quite a bit. Grandpa Gorrell was convinced he had the magic to make her smile, Grandma Gorrell thought it was the glare of his glasses...
